Polytechnic Students Threaten Nationwide Protest Over Dangote Truck Accident.

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has announced a planned nationwide protest for this Wednesday, demanding justice for a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Ruth Otabor, who was severely injured in a truck accident involving a Dangote vehicle.

The accident, which occurred last week in Auchi, Edo State, left Otabor hospitalized. Although officials from Dangote Group have visited her and promised comprehensive medical support, NAPS has declared their commitment to protest, stating the move is for all victims of similar accidents.

In a statement signed by its Action Committee Chairman, Olasunkanmi Ijaduoye, and Public Relations Officer, Usman Dende, NAPS said the protest will include picketing all Dangote business locations across the country.

The association has issued a list of demands, including:

Medical Care: Global standard medical treatment for both Ruth Otabor and the injured bike rider, along with special support for other victims of the August 17 tragedy.

Employment and Housing: Automatic employment for Otabor as an Assistant Director at Dangote Cement Plc upon her recovery, along with a three-bedroom apartment in Ikoyi.

Lifelong Security: Lifelong financial and medical security for the injured bike rider.

Road Safety: The construction of pedestrian bridges and speed bumps near schools and the funding of Federal Road Safety Corps enforcement units.

Accountability: The immediate public disclosure of disciplinary action taken against the truck driver, as well as an overhaul of driver recruitment and monitoring procedures.

NAPS vowed not to give up until justice is served, declaring the protest a call to action against corporate recklessness and the loss of lives on Nigerian highways.
