ANEC Endorses Renewed Hope Development Plan 2026-2030, Targets $1 Trillion Economy by 2030.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed the Renewed Hope Development Plan 2026-2030, a five-year framework aimed at consolidating Nigeria's reform agenda and achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The endorsement was made at the 151st NEC meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima..

The plan, which will build on existing policies and deepen continuity, is designed to align Nigeria's growth trajectory with the long-term goals of the Nigeria Agenda 2050. Shettima emphasized that the plan will be participatory, engaging multiple tiers of government, civil society, and private actors.

NEC commended the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for kick-starting the process for actualizing the $1 trillion economy and urged effective participation by all states and stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and accelerated growth.

The council also reviewed progress on polio eradication efforts, noting notable gains in reducing cases. Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State highlighted improvements in surveillance and vaccination, with settlements tracked with geo-coordinate data increasing from 71% to 78% and vaccination coverage rising from 81% to 84%.

NEC called on the Accountant General of the Federation to expedite the release of funds for the next round of the national polio immunization campaign and urged partners to leverage technology to strengthen surveillance and tracking systems.

The Renewed Hope Plan 2026-2030 is expected to be launched by President Bola Tinubu before the end of the year, with a participatory process involving Nigerians from all walks of life. NEC has promised to provide necessary support and an enabling environment for the full and effective participation of state teams or representatives in the plan's preparation.
