Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Commercial Driver in Obudu, Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adeshina Gilbert, in connection with the brutal murder of a commercial driver, Agage Ternenge, in the Obudu Local Government Area of the state on July 18, 2025. The victim, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough, Benue State, was allegedly attacked by a group of hoodlums while delivering a parcel in Obudu.

According to the state police spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, the incident took place when Ternenge was carrying out a delivery in the area. He was confronted by a mob of assailants who then stoned him to death. The shocking nature of the attack was further highlighted by a disturbing video that surfaced on social media, showing the savage assault carried out on the victim by a group of individuals.

The arrested suspect, Adeshina Gilbert, is a resident of Abonkib community in Obudu Urban. He is currently in police custody, and authorities are continuing to search for other individuals believed to have been involved in the heinous crime.

"The incident is highly disturbing, and the video footage circulating online only adds to the horror of this brutal act," Ugbo stated. The victim, Ternenge, was delivering a waybill to an individual in the community when he was set upon by the attackers.

Condemnation of the Murder and Police Action The State Commissioner of Police, AIG Okoye Ikechukwu, condemned the killing, describing it as a barbaric act that is a gross violation of human rights. He emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of every individual and vowed that the police would not relent in their efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime.

"We will ensure that justice is served and that all those involved in this horrific crime are brought to justice. The brutality of this incident is deeply troubling, and we are committed to bringing all culprits to account," the commissioner stated.
